Morne Seychellois National Park is situated on the northern side of Mahe. Seychelles is famed for having some of the best beaches around the globe, and some are famous for its pristine and uncrowded. It is also well-known for its age-old granite rocks, powder-soft sands, turquoise clear waters and awe-inspiring opportunities for pure relaxation and swimming. For a long time tourists were allured to Seychelles for its sand, sea and sun. The Morne Seychellois National Park is the biggest national park in the Seychelles. It is situated on the northern side of Mahe, being directly to the west of Victoria and sandwiched by Port Launay and Bel Ombre. The park covers the total surface area of 3045 hectares (more than twenty percent of the area of Mahe). It is 10 kilometer in length and between 2 and 4 kilometer in breadth.

The highest mountain in this island is the “Morne Seychellois” which measures more than 900 meter/2950 feet in height (approximately) making it the tallest in the whole peninsula. It is comprised of coastal mangrove forest, lush tropical jungles and foggy mountains.

Guidelines for the trail

The National Park Unit (NPU) in the Department of Environment took a responsibility to maintain the trail network for its visitors. To guide the visitors, the National Park Unit has created a set of pamphlets. Each pamphlet contains a map of the area crossed by the trail and instruction about the route and the ecology of the site. The pamphlets are popular with tourists and are available in four languages, so that the tourists from several places can get pleasure from learning about the forests.

Natural Reserves

Morne Seychellois National Park acts as a habitat for many floras and faunas. It is especially a home for many significant sea birds in the Indian Ocean. The park is also contains numerous aromatic flowers and native woodland, making it the ideal habitat for gecko and skink lizards, in addition to oceanic turtles. This island is under the Island Conservation Society in the Seychelles.
