La Bastille hiking trail is two or three hour hike but considered relatively easy. The best time for hiking in this particular route is during the afternoon with the shade giving cover and protecting you from the sun.

Though the duration of La Bastille hiking trail is from two to three hours the hike is considered relatively easy as the path is covered with plenty of shade, the path is well marked and not too slippery. It is a good experience for those who are travelling with children as well as most of the time one would be hiking through civilisation and if need be can make multiple number of stops. The best time according to the locals to take on the hike is in the afternoon as this is when one could see the covers of the trees and experience it in all its glory.

Directions:

The best way to get to the starting point is to travel by bus as there are no parking spots nearby the starting point. The first thing to do would be to go to the central bus stand from Victoria and then take the bus in the direction of Anse Étoile. After about two stops, the point is to be approached by foot which is in the same direction as you were travelling. In approximately 100m a large building marked the Bastille would be present, it is behind this building that one needs to turn to the left and climb up for about an hour, following the road dead ahead even at the point where one could find two houses turning to the right.

After about 50 meters one could come across the intersection where one needs to take left and follow that path to the highest point of the hike. One can just take a few minutes to enjoy the breathtaking view that is tightly snuggled in between the trees and also take a few sips of water in the shade. About 200m downhill comes an intersection where one could either take the left or right but according to many locals it is better to take the right turn to enjoy the water from the fresh water source. Further along this path comes a left turn which leads to a house where one is to pass underneath the retaining wall and in about 10 meters behind a building take right from where in about 100 meters one would reach their destination.

Things to know:

The hike is friendly for anyone willing to walk for 2 to 3 hours, even for children as the walk is through civilisation and covered with plenty of shade.

Carry plenty of water to keep one going for the time duration. Not much of sunscreen is required as there is plenty of shade covering the route.
