Beau Vallon beach of Mahe Island

Beau Vallon beach is on Mahe’s north western coast. This beach is the island’s longest and most famous one. Known best for the wide range of water sports it offers, it’s the perfect place for young and old alike. Though it is a bit crowded, it gives a taste of real island life to the tourists. Right from the tiny shops selling trinkets and souvenirs, to the fishermen haggling their wares in the afternoon sun, you will certainly fall in love with this beautiful beach.

You can also enjoy an amazing view of the sunset across clear, sparkling waters. The beach boasts a wide range of restaurants and even a nightclub if you want to check out the night life on Mahe. If you’re staying at any of the hotels on the beach, then you merely have to step outside onto the golden sand to enjoy a bit of island life.

Salient Features

  • The Beau Vallon beach has pretty shallow waters that deepen only farther in. Even then, the depth gradually increases, making it easy for adults to supervise their kids.

  • Though this beach is crowded, it is possible to find peace and quiet as it stretches for over 2 km.
  • There is a bazaar every Wednesday and Saturday where you can get takeout, antiques, souvenirs, and the like. The Wednesday bazaar is especially famous as it involves a band and a few dancers as well. The theme is upbeat and tropical, creating a relaxed atmosphere for watching the sunset. It lasts from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • There are vendors on the beach selling coconut water or other refreshing drinks. Apart from that, there are several places to eat on the beach ranging from pizza to French cuisine.
  • The beach is well equipped with public restrooms and changing rooms for those who are not staying at the hotels on the beach. One can also buy bikinis, board shorts or sarongs for nominal prices at the stands.
